LICENSE AND REGISTRATION
========================
GlazeChem is distributed as Shareware. You may keep and use this
program for a free trial period of 45 days, after which you must
either uninstall the program (see Uninstall.txt) or purchase
a license by sending the registration fee to the author.

If you register, you will receive a personal software registration
code (a number you type into GlazeChem to show you have registered).
After an additional 45-day grace period, the software will not work
without the code.

Sharing of codes, using a code assigned to another user, or bypassing
the registration mechanism in any other way is a form of software
piracy and is strictly prohibited.

The license fee is $35.00 (U.S.). The license is for one user or one
computer:
  a) One user license: One person may install and use the software on
their own computer or computers (up to 3). The software may not
be used by different users or on different computers simultaneously.
  b) One computer: The software can be installed on a single
non-networked computer available to multiple users (at a studio or
     in a school, for example).
If you install the software on a network, you must send one license fee
for each computer from which the program might be used. Discounted site
and group licenses are available.

Registered users of GlazeChem 1.2 and earlier may license GlazeChem 2.1
for a $10.00 upgrade fee.

Users from outside the U.S. should send an International Postal Money
Order (or the local equivalent) for $35.00 U.S. ($10.00 for upgrades).

The registration form can be found in Register.txt and in the online help.

For more information and the author's current address, visit the GlazeChem
pages at http://www.dinoclay.com/.

System Requirements
*******************

-80486 or Pentium-class processor
-Windows 95/98/ME/NT (not yet tested with Windows 2000)
-8 Mb RAM
-10 Mb or more free disk space (25 Mb during installation)
-800x600 or higher screen resolution recommended

GlazeChem 1.2 was able to run on a Macintosh running Windows 95 with a PC
emulator called "Virtual P.C." from Connectix Corp. GlazeChem 2.1 has not
yet been tested on this platform.

************
Installation
************

To install GlazeChem:

1. Download the GlazeChem zip file and unzip the files to a new
temporary directory (folder).

2. Run SETUP.EXE and follow the instructions.

Note: if you have a previous version of GlazeChem installed on
your system, be sure to install GlazeChem 2.1 program and data files
to new directories.

3. After installation, you can delete the files you extracted from
the zip file. You might want to save the zip file in a safe place,
in case you ever need to reinstall.

*******************
Manual Installation
*******************

Manual installation is not recommended, but if the setup program fails
for some reason, you may want to try this.

1. As above, download and unzip the GlazeChem zip file.

2. Create a directory for your GlazeChem program files, and another
directory for your data files. These can be anywhere on your hard
drive.

3. In the program directory, create a file called "datalocation.txt".
Edit this file with NotePad. Type in the name of the data folder and
hit Enter. For example, if you created a directory "D:\data\glazedata"
for your GlazeChem data, type that directory name into the file. Save
the file. This file will help GlazeChem to find your data the first time
it is run.

4. In the temporary directory where you unzipped the files, you should
find five subdirectories: data, gsw, help, ini, and program.
4a. Move the files from the data subdirectory to your new GlazeChem
      data directory.
4b. Move the files from the gsw subdirectory to your Windows\System
directory. If files with those names already exist in your system
directory, you will have to look at the Properties of each set
of files to determine which is newer (the files distributed with
GlazeChem 2.1 are version 5.50.0000). Usually you should go with
the newer version, but keep the older files just in case something
      breaks.
4c. Move the file from the ini subdirectory to your Windows directory.
4d. Move the files from the help and program subdirectories to your
      new GlazeChem program directory.

5. To install a desktop shortcut to GlazeChem, right-click on your desktop
and choose New | Shortcut. For the command line, browse to the GlazeChem
executable (GlazeChem.exe) in your GlazeChem program directory. For the
name, type "GlazeChem 2.1".

6. To install GlazeChem in your Start menu, you need to install similar
shortcuts in a new subdirectory of your "Windows\Start Menu\Programs"
directory.

7. After installation, you can delete the remaining files you extracted
from the zip file. You might want to save the zip file in a safe place,
in case you ever need to reinstall.

Quick-Start Instructions
************************
If the Setup program ran successfully, you can start GlazeChem from a
shortcut on your desktop or from your Start menu. Inside GlazeChem, use
commands in the Help menu (or press F1) to get more information and
instructions on how to use the program.

Here are the quick-start instructions I promised. After you read through
these instructions, please consider going through the tour (see Tour.rtf).

1. Start GlazeChem. If it's your first time using the program, read the
message and click OK.

2. Choose File | New Glaze Database (the New Glaze Database command in
the File menu). A new window opens. The new database is tentatively
called "Glazes", and there is one glaze in the list (called "new glaze").

3. Double-click on "new glaze". Another, more complicated window opens.
This is the window where you can enter your glaze information.

4. Change the Name from "new glaze" to the name of your first glaze.

5. In the Range field, type in the firing range in cones (for example,
"10", "04", "4-8"), or in degrees F or C (for example, "1260 C").

6. For Firing Type, click the down-arrow and select an option from the
picklist. (Later on, you can configure these picklists to your liking.)

7. Enter other descriptive information in the other fields. Click on the
down-arrows to see lists of possibilities, or type in something that's
not in the list if you wish.

8. Click the Recipe button.

9. In the Components box, enter the base glaze ingredients and their
amounts, one ingredient per line. On each line, type the material name
or code, then a space or tab, then the amount, then press Enter. The
names and codes of materials that GlazeChem knows about at the moment
are listed in the Material List box at the right.

10. In the Additions box, enter additions to the base glaze.

11. If your recipe contains only materials that GlazeChem knows about,
you can see the chemical analysis of the glaze immediately. Click either
of the Analysis buttons you see. If there are unknown materials in the
recipe, GlazeChem cannot analyze the glaze; you'd need to add the
unknown materials to the material list first.

12. Click the Notes button. Here you can enter glaze notes and
variations and record the glaze source.

13. Click Save Changes to save the glaze to the database.

14. Choose File | Save Glaze Database to save the new database to disk.
Since this database is new, you will be prompted to name the file. Give
the file a name followed by ".glz" (for example, "myglazes.glz").

15. You can continue adding glazes if you wish. Click Append New to add
another one right now, then click Description and continue from step 4.
Remember to use the Save Glaze Database command occasionally (you don't
need to do it after every glaze).

16. Press F1 if you need Help. But better yet, do the tutorial
in Tour.rtf! You will learn a lot!
